Abstract:
Chinese characters have been imported to Japan for over a thousand years and have gone through numerous reformations and deformations. Known as Kanji, Chinese characters are blended with Japanese history and culture. Kanji have even become the symbolic sign of Japanese culture. To research the charm and cultural significance of Kanji, this paper proposes detailed observation and analysis of history and legends of the importation as well as acceptance and deformations of Kanji in Japan. The close relation between Kanji and Japanese culture is interpreted in several aspects.
