Research on the Influencing Factors of Undergraduates’ Awards in a “Double First-Class” University in Western China

Abstract: Purpose/Significance Cultivating high-quality, top-notch and innovative talents is the key to construct “Double First-Class” universities. Design/Methodology This study analyzes the awards of undergraduate students in a research-oriented university in the west, and uses descriptive statistics, one-sample t-test, and binary logistic regression analysis to analyze the impact of individual characteristics, expenditures, economic sources, and learning engagement factors on students’ awards at the international, national, provincial, and school levels, and compares the learning engagement of the senior award-winning students in the university with those in American first-class universities. Findings/Conclusion Students in first-class universities of China and the US have their own strengths in learning engagement. Gender, mother’s annual income, mother’s education level and learning strategies have a positive impact on students’ awards, while father’s education level, basic daily expenses and higher-order learning have a negative impact. According to the research conclusions, some suggestions are put forward for strengthening talent training and improving students’ comprehensive quality in “double first-class” universities.
