Abstract: Purpose/Significance Reconstructing GVC, a structural change in Global Value Chains (GVC) caused by the breaking of globalization, is a recent developed phenomenon in the global economy. Relevant research is still in its infancy with limited discussions on the antecedents, pathways, and performance of reconstructing GVC. Design/Methodology By deploying qualitative comparative analysis on paths and results of reconstructing GVC among 65 manufacturing enterprises in China, this research refined the paths model of Chinese enterprises reconstructing GVC. Firstly, the capability of R&D is the most important element to promote Chinese manufacturing enterprises to reconstruct GVC. Conclusions/Findings Further more, reconstructing GVC is the result of comprehensive competition of enterprise’s various capabilities. At last, to become the technical leader of GVC through technological innovation is the main path for Chinese manufacturing enterprises to reconstruct GVC. Above conclusions not only enrich the study in the field of enterprise capability, enterprise innovation and Global Value Chains, but also provide reference and enlightenment for the upgrading of manufacturing enterprises in emerging economies that are exploring to break the governance pattern of flagship enterprises in GVC.
