Abstract: Since the Opium Wars，the image of China had got deteriorated in the eyes of the American public． However，in the 1930s，such an image went through significant changes．During the process，Pearl Buck’8 novel“The Good Earth”and the Hollywood film carrying the螂tide played important roles．This article attempts at analyzing the positive image of China in the film and the underlying historical and social factors contributing to such an image．
