Abstract: Critical Discourse Analysis has become a multidisciplinary paradigm of social science in the West since the late 1970s. Judged from its critical perspective and emancipatory interest, Chinese academics’ study of Critical Discourse Analysis is not quite satisfactory in terms of theory construction and practical application. The most urgent issue now seems to be how to orientate Critical Discourse Analysis in contemporary Chinese context. In other words, we should make clear what is/are the purpose(s) of Critical Discourse Analysis in contemporary China, which topics Critical Discourse Analysis should apply to, and what kind(s) of research method(s) can we turn to, etc. The orientation of Critical Discourse Analysis is indeed the localization of Critical Discourse Analysis, or the cultural turn of it, in contemporary China
