Abstract:
Stuart Hall is the founding figure, leader, thinking path-breaker and epitome of British Birmingham School. He has greatly contributed to the founding and development of this school. Stuart Hall has deeply influenced by Gramsci, and “cultural hegemony” is the continuous theme of Hall’s thought. This paper is mainly to examine “cultural hegemony” in Stuart Hall’s earlier cultural theory, probe into its historical context and its specific representation in his earlier cultural theory, which has offered discourse space for us to think about Hall’s earlier thought value and significance, and which has offered an important guide and research perspective for us to penetrate into the relationship between Hall’s thought and the origin of cultural hegemony
