“Devouring” and “Nourishing”: Lin Shu's Translation from the Perspective of Cannibalism

  • Cannibalism considers "translation as a kind of blood transfusion". Through creative rewriting of the source text, the foreign culture is melted into and enriched the native culture and tradition. This offers a fresh perspective to penetrate into Lin Shu's translation: seen from the choice of source texts, Lin Shu translates the strong culture; seen from the translation strategy, he adopted the cannibal method——rewriting; seen from the effect, his translation empowered and nourished the native culture.
