Sustainability Assessment and Investment Strategy Analysis of China's Regional Construction Industry

  • As one of the most energy-intensive industries, construction industry is a main carbon sector in China. Along with the rapid development of construction industry, a large number of issues have become more apparent, which is not conducive to the sustainable development of China's construction industry. In this paper, we use a non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA) based method to evaluate the economic and environmental unified efficiency of construction industry for 30 provinces during 2008-2012. Then we propose investment strategies for each province by employing the DEA dual model. In this study, Beijing performs best in construction industry during 2008-2012, while Hebei, Shandong and Hubei are the worst performed regions. Based on unified efficiency and the effectiveness of investments; we divide 30 provinces into 5 categories and put forward corresponding investment strategies. Finally, relevant policy implications are derived after the empirical study.
