Research of the Influencing Factors on the Standard Essential Patent’s Value Based on the Ordered Logistic Regression

This paper takes the patents of UMTS as the researching objects, which are the third-generation mobile communication technical standard in the field of information and communication technologies, including the litigation standard essential patents (SEPs) and non-litigation ones. The factor analysis method is used to determine the SEP’s value, and the influencing factors on SEPs are devided into the technical value and strategic value. Then the ordered logistic regression is used to identify the influence of the technical factor and strategic factor on SEPs. The results show that: (1) the value of litigation SEPs are higher than the value of the non-litigation SEPs; (2) the influencing factors on SEP’s value can be devided into the technical value and strategic value, and the value of the strategic value is more important.
