Abstract
Purpose/Significance The rural area in the western mountainous region is very important for China to implement the targeted poverty alleviation strategy, and the traffic poverty alleviation holds the key to promoting the regional strategy. Although transportation, an important foundation to increase farmers’ income, develop rural economy and achieve targeted poverty alleviation in rural areas, can greatly boost the regional flow of rural labor force, agricultural products and other rural economic and cultural resources, still the rural public passenger transport resources in western mountainous region have not been fully utilized. Problems such as large loss of bus operation, high time consuming, difficulty of industrial products in reaching the countryside, high transport cost of agricultural products to the city, among others are still the main obstacles to the poverty alleviation via transportation and the building of a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way in rural areas. Design/Methodology Based on the research methods of literature analysis, field investigation and expert interview, this paper takes the example of “Tongcuncun” platform in Leishan County and puts forward some suggestions on how to further improve the traffic infrastructure, strengthen the construction of traffic informatization, set up the rural service spots and ensure the rural traffic safety in the western mountainous region. Findings/Conclusions The intelligent traffic model may provide important reference for the targeted poverty alleviation work in the western mountainous region of China.
