Evaluation on the International Competitiveness of Scientific Research of Chinese Universities and the Improving Strategies Under the Background of “Double First-class” Program

  • Purpose/Significance Under the background of “double first-class” program, internationalization is an important strategy for the scientific research competitiveness of the university. Design/Methodology Based on sorting out the common characteristics of the scientific research innovation of the “double first-class” university, the evaluation index system of the international competitiveness of scientific research of the university is constructed from three dimensions: input, output and environment. The overall entropy method combined with gray relational analysis method is used to analyze the international competitiveness of scientific research of universities in 31 different regions of China. Findings/Conclusions The achievements, talents and projects of scientific research have great influence on the competitiveness of scientific research of universities in different regions. The overall international competitiveness of scientific research of Chinese universities shows a ladder-like distribution, which is higher in the east and lower in the west. The competitiveness of universities in Beijing, Jiangsu and Shanghai rank on the top three, while the universities in the western region still lag in the ranking, but the gap is narrowing compared with universities in the central areas and some coastal areas of China. At last, the improving strategy and suggestion are put forward.
