Abstract
Purpose/Significance The development strategy of regional urban agglomerations helps industrial cooperation and complementary advantages among cities; however, the agglomeration of urban agglomerations also makes the economic overheating development and causes more and more serious impacts on the natural environment. Therefore, it is extremely important to explore a path that meets the development according to the national conditions and balances both economy and environment. Design/Methodology Using the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration as the subject, this paper analyzes the impact of economic coordination committee on the performance of regional urban agglomerations in atmospheric management based on monthly panel data from 2016 to 2020. Conclusions/Findings First, the economic coordination will play a limited role in the synergistic improvement of air pollution in urban agglomerations and has different effects on the improvement of different indicators, specifically, the coordination will significantly improve PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and other indicators of air pollutants in the joining cities, but aggravate O3 pollution, and the effect of aggravating pollution strengthens with time. Second, despite the mobility and spillover effects of air pollution in urban agglomerations, the empirical results show that the air quality of surrounding regional cities has a limited impact on the air pollution in the member cities of the coordination council.
