Abstract
Wilfrid Silas put the fundamental difference between human and the world contact into two “image”, one is known as the “obvious image”, and the other is called “scientific image”. Based on the double perspectives of the history of philosophy and history of science, this paper analyzes the formation, basic characteristics and the relationship between these two kinds of images to demonstrate problems, such as the reality of scientific theory and the ontology of theoretical entities. It should be said that, Sellars’s important contributions to the existence of theoretical entities not only made him become one of Founders of scientific realism in the United States, but also made him be an important philosopher in the United States’s 50-year philosophy agenda. Based on the analysis of Sellars's apparent image or common sense image and scientific image, this paper discusses the contents and characteristics of Sellars's image theory, as well as Sellars image theory in philosophy of mind implication.
