Abstract: A a pioneers China modern index, Lin Yutang stood at the height of the new culture movement, making many contributions and explorations to Chinese characters. His work produced positive influences on Chinese characters study and research and the compilation of index theories. Moreover, its significance is not limited just to the indexing methods for Chinese characters itself.
