Abstract:
Yi and Jing are essential and crucial in composing and analyzing ancient Chinese poems, and therefore we need to reveal both when translating ancient Chinese poems into English. This paper focuses on case analysis of the English versions of Tune to “Sand and Sky” — Autumn Thoughts to illustrate the authors’ idea that it is the translator’s priority to consider the equivalence in Yi and Jing of the poem rather than that in forms of the original and the translated versions in accordance with Halliday’s Discourse Analysis Model. Otherwise, ancient Chinese poems would be turned into English modern poems or even essays via image translation
