Abstract: Based on systemic-functional grammar, this paper summarizes the cohesive relations between linguistic semiosis and visual semiosis in multimodal texts. It expands the scope of visual-verbal cohesion by including interpersonal visual-verbal cohesion and contextual visual-verbal cohesion. The paper also provides detailed illustrations of interpersonal inter-semiotic cohesion and contextual inter-semiotic cohesion. The former is done from the perspective of mood structure and attitudes, and the latter from the perspective of linguistic context and cultural context.
