Abstract:
Based on the analysis of development characteristics of the digital economy, this paper constructs a comparable evaluation index system of national digital economy development from four dimensions: digital infrastructure, digital innovation environment, digital industry development, and digital development benefits, and uses the fixed base range vertical and horizontal pull-off method to comprehensively evaluate and analyze the digital economy development of 56 countries from 2000 to 2021 from time and space dimensions. The results show that the national digital economy development has always maintained growing momentum, and digital infrastructure is the major force to promote the digital economy development. There are significant gaps in the comprehensive level of digital economic development and subsystem development level among different countries, with developed countries, especially those in Europe have obvious advantages, while developing countries are relatively lagging behind. The rapid development of the digital economy can lead to “digital divide”, but this gap is generally narrowing over time, and the annual average growth rate of digital economic development in developing countries is relatively high, have obvious “catch-up effect”. China’s digital economy development is not ideal, only the digital industry development performing relatively well, but the annual average growth rate of digital economy development is the highest, the space for improvement is enormous.
