Abstract:
“Socio-cognitive” approach to Critical Discourse Analysis holds that no direct relation can be constructed between discourse structures and social structures without the mediation of cognitive interface. Therefore, in order to reveal the complex relationship between discourse, power and ideology, the social and cognitive process in discursive production and comprehension should be carefully analyzed. This paper intends to introduce the theoretical foundation of “socio-cognitive”approach and its analytical methods via a case study of George.W. Bush’s speech to the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War.
