Abstract: In Erich Fromm’s eyes．the characteristics of modem society is the performance of“owning’’and“be· ing”，while the latter is the sotlrce of happiness．In all owning—oriented society，people study just for the sake of posses· sion of learning。in order to access to social resources and social status and learning．The‘‘Being”in the community stimu— lates the people’s human development and the pursuit of self-support each process．Modem education encourages people to pursue self-development and it is necessary to help people to develop a healthy relationship between people and things．
